“Well, if you can’t have what you want, you could try to want what you have.” -Gillian Shields
“It was so much easier when I didn’t want anything. Not getting what you want can make you cruel.” – David Levithan
What is your greatest desires? This question is intriguing to me because it should be a different answer for almost every person. Why want what others have? Instead it’s important to focus on self-desires. If someone else likes something it doesn’t mean that I will also like it and vice versa. With different desires, the strive for achieving them will then most likely need to be different. This is why it’s important to put up the blinders and try to focus less on what others around you are doing as it truly is just a distraction to the your own adventure.
For example, I love trying new things so I decided to take up some archery this year. It was a great decision so far, I enjoy shooting my new bow and practice quite often. If I didn’t like it, I would sell my bow and move on to something else I liked. Now just because I wanted to do archery, it doesn’t mean that everyone I know will want to do archery. Just like I don’t want to do other people’s activities sometimes. It’s important to remember this for two reasons. One, everyone has their own wants and desires and it’s important to respect them. Two, try to do what you like to do as much as you can because life is too short not to. The last thing I want to do is regret not doing the things I love with the people I love more often. I have been trying to take advantage of this as much as possible this year and that’s probably why we have had such a great year so far. What’s something you want to do before the end of the year and how to do you plan on doing it?
