“Life is made up not of great sacrifices or duties, but of little things, in which smiles and kindness and small obligations given habitually, are what preserve the heart and secure comfort.” -William Davy
Don’t sweat the small stuff.. I hear that a lot. So what do we do with the “small stuff”? More importantly, what do we do with the good small stuff that happens? How about let’s add to the quote. Don’t sweat the small stuff but don’t forget to enjoy the tiny victories. Or maybe, don’t sweat the small stuff but make sure to take advantage of small opportunities. The small things from a positive aspect can make your whole day. Today, for example, I asked my boss if it would be ok to take an extra work from home day to help get my dog to and from her surgery. Without hesitation, the answer was yes. It made me feel great, like there has been a sense of trust earned already even though I’m new. It was a morale boost even though it was small. That type of stuff can make your day. On the contrary, if it was a no, it’s important to let it go and not let it bother you. It’s more difficult to understand the whole decision making process in a situation sometimes, especially when you’re on the not so great side. It’s equally important to accept the no’s or the things that don’t go my way to make the opposite of both that much more enjoyable. There isn’t enough time in the day to sweat the small stuff, whether it makes me influence change or accept it, either way I try to make a firm decision and move on. If you keep a positive attitude, you can make it through anything small or big.
