“Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s need, but not every man’s greed.” – Mahatma Gandhi
“There is no such thing as “away” when we throw anything away it must go somewhere.” – Annie Leonard
This is a recycling rant, viewer discretion is advised. Our neighborhood and city stopped picking up recycling every week at the start of COVID. Since then, it never reverted back which is very disappointing. We both care about recycling so we of course still make time to separate the recycling and every few weeks bring it to the local dump. Now this is inconvenient for two reasons. For one, although they stopped picking up the recycling, they did not change the hours at our city dump. The hours are during the 9-5 work day so we can’t go unless it’s on the Friday we have off every other week. The second reason, which includes the first point, is this is just a huge deterrent to recycle for everyone. I know neighbors aren’t recyling and friends who aren’t recycling simply because of the inconvenience and I almost don’t blame them. Everyone should feel some sort of accountability for the future of the planet so I do still blame those who are too lazy to go recycle but I do put almost all of the blame on the city/county for stopping this program of picking up the recycling. When people are in the habit of doing something, it’s hard to change that habit especially when it becomes an inconvenience. I hope this changes soon but I thought it was worth talking about because it’s both frustrating and dissappointing to see a blatant disregard for recycling in 2021.
Item 232 of 360+
Today’s decluttered item are all of the cans and bottles I just recycled.. I am joking, today’s item is a Snapple t-shirt from Amalia. It’s from 2016 so it had a good run but now it has been donated for reuse by someone else who needs it.
