“Work is hard. Distractions are plentiful. And time is short.” – Adam Hochschild
“Stay focused, ignore the distractions, and you will accomplish your goals much faster.” – Joel Osteen
I got distracted as I started writing this post. Then I thought to myself, what was I writing this post on again? Oh yes, distractions, of course! This bothers me like nothing else, I will get distracted so easily, lose my train of thought and then move on to something else. So I figured today we could ask ourselves today about the distractions in our life.
Q1: What is currently your biggest distraction?
It’s simple, it’s my phone. I have not been able to break away from checking my social media like a robot. it’s not something I enjoy and sometimes I wonder how I even get into the infinite loop. If you have been following the posts a few months ago I did run some experiments with myself to break my habit but it returned of course because I never actually fixed the main problems. I think it’s two big things, one is Facebook. For facebook, I know exactly why I can’t get off of it, if you have a similar problem, check out the documentary called “the social dilemma”. Facebook is designed to keep you hooked with sickening algorithms of knowing what you like. Two, it’s just the plain habit of checking my phone too often and allowing myself the ability to start the loop. I do find myself doing this far more often out of a sort of boredom where I have things to do but I don’t want to do it yet. Then I think, well what can I do to pass the time for a little.. and that’s a steep slope! I am happy to say that I have stopped being distracted by my phone a lot more with friends / family around which is great but I just want to get better overall now.
Q2: More importantly, what are you doing to fix this distraction?
Well, as I came to this conclusion today, I have made the decision to remove the facebook app from my phone which I think is a big step forward. Also, I plan on just being more focused now moving forward. I hate wasting time and have plenty of things I want to do so I just need to be more motivated to get things done with the reward being that I can do the things I really want to do. Whether it’s playing a video game with friends, watching a show with Amalia or reading the book that’s been on the same page for too long now. This is my new mid-year goal for myself. It went from less things, more experiences to less things, less phone time and even more experiences.
Item 180 of 360+
Today’s decluttered item is a makeup travel bag. The saying on it is quite ironic as Amalia did recently go through some of her make up to declutter. Maybe that’s why this item got the chop block today. Regardless, another item gone, another day in the books!
