Day 84 – Be Thoughtful

“Thoughtfulness is the beginning of great sanctity. If you learn this art of being thoughtful, you will become more and more Christ-like, for his heart was meek and he always thought of others. Our vocation, to be beautiful, must be full of thought for others.” – Mother Teresa

Happy Thursday Thoughts and today is about, well, being thoughtful! I thought it was only fitting to use a Mother Teresa quote today to emulate thoughtfulness as she was literally a saint and was one of the most thoughtful and selfless people in the world. Now, I don’t expect us all to be Mother Teresa level thoughtful here, but being thoughtful and caring for others rather than yourself is the greatest thing in life. “Love thy neighbor as thy self” mentality is how I’ve always strived to live my life. When I was in Sunday school we had to write about loving thy neighbor as thy self and what it means to you. I don’t remember what I wrote exactly because this is going back quite a few years ago lol but I remember what I felt while writing it and thinking about it. My Dad is a spiritual person and has always strived to live by this commandment so he helped me really think about it. Naturally, I wanted to follow in his footsteps and embody the same value of selflessness and thoughtfulness, so I incorporated it into my life. Not trying to get all religious here, but whether you are or not, as a person, you should be caring for others. A selfish person ends up with no true friends and emptiness inside without feeling the joy of helping others.

Being totally selfless is definitely hard to do, especially as we are fighting our natural instincts according to the Darwinian theory of ‘Survival of the Fittest.’ However, being more mindful of your thoughtfulness and working towards being a better person is always possible. Especially in times of loss or grief, when you loved someone, you automatically think about things you could have done for them that may have changed the situation or made the most of that loved one’s time on this Earth. Being selfless and thoughtful not only makes you feel better as a person, but gives you enjoyment out of the kindness of your heart to help others in need, whether that be an emotional or physical aid. As a kid when I was offered a lollipop or anything from someone, I would ask if there was another for my sister before accepting the candy. We are born with instincts to help ourselves, but I believe we are also born to help others. I was a young child thinking about my sister before myself. I want to work on grounding myself again and becoming more selfless and thoughtful like I was as a little girl. Growing up in a world revolved around material possessions and watching celerity billionaires build entire mini cities in their backyards definitely doesn’t help the ‘love the neighbor as thy self’ mentality. Don’t get caught up in the superficial crap and remember what matters in the end is how you treated others.

Item 084 of 360+

Today’s item is my old cell phone! We will be selling this old iPhone 7 that had a cracked screen that we were hanging onto for no apparent reason on eBay. This phone served me well for a long time, and it’s time that I now let someone else use it rather than leaving it untouched in a box.
