” My father said there were two kinds of people in the world: givers and takers. The takers may eat better, but the givers sleep better.” – Marlo Thomas
In this world centered around materialistic ideals and social media influence, it’s easy to get caught up in it all but not as easy to pick out those who are living this lifestyle to heart. Some people believe this is the most important part of your life, your image and not caring how you get to where you want to be, just that you get there. These selfish people will climb to the top and not look back down for a second. These are the takers.
The takers are the people out there who couldn’t care less about what they’ve done to people to get to the place they are now that they deem as most important in life. Getting that CEO position at your company may have sacrificed friendships and caused strains within your family to get a bigger check. Was it worth it though? Do you really need that extra money and not need those close relationships with trusted friends anymore? Some people never realize what they have given up to get to where they are. They get lost in the materialistic lifestyle and forget what true happiness is.
The person who turns down the higher paying job opportunity located across the country to forfeit having to uproot their family is a giver. The person who’d rather give the clothes off their back for someone who could use them more is the giver. If you choose to live your life selflessly it’ll leave you feeling fulfilled. Being a giver offers more to life, because the more you take, the less you’ll actually end up with in the end. Choose to be a giver and don’t get caught up in the materialistic items and money that’ll often leave you upset and dissatisfied.
Going back to the quote today, my dad actually has instilled this in my life since I was little. My dad is a giver and lives a very minimalistic lifestyle. He is happy with little to nothing and it’s due to his selflessness. You really do sleep better at night when you are a giver. I try to be like him with this admirable trait. Going through this journey of giving away items leaves TJ and I feeling better about ourselves and glad to help others.
Item 066 of 360+
Today’s item is a shirt from TJ. A common theme as this is yet again a shirt from gaming that was collecting dust. He no longer wears it anymore so there is no reason to keep it around the house.
